When replacing the latex expansion washer on stainless steel stopper assemblies or faucets, first remove the retaining ring with needle nose pliers or the point of a phillips screwdriver. Gently pry off the ring. Slide off the old washer and slide on the new one. Put the washer back and slide retaining ring into the slot at the end of the shaft.
